THREE people in Barnsley died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in May.

To date a total of 802 residents have died in Barnsley since the start of the pandemic.

The town’s death rate is still the second-highest in the country at 324.9 per 100,000 residents.

This comes after more than 75 per cent of Barnsley’s adult population have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

More than 150,000 residents have had their first dose in the town 73.8 per cent of the borough.

Nearly half of those over 18 in the town are now fully vaccinated.
