RESIDENTS from a Royston road were evacuated from their homes over the weekend following the discovery of artillery shells in a garden.
The army’s explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team were called to Cropton Road yesterday afternoon (May 9) after a man reported that he had found some artillery shells while carrying out renovations at his property.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “As a precautionary measure, a temporary cordon was put in place and some homes were evacuated while officers carried out enquiries.
“The army’s EOD team attended to assess the shells and deemed them to be inactive.
“They were taken away to be disposed of.”
