YOUTHS were caught attempting to climb shop roofs and causing disruption by police in Hoyland last night.

On Thursday evening (April 15), police were patrolling the Hoyland area with high-vis vests around High Street at Jump, Hemmingfield and Elsecar.

Police spent most of the night tackling antisocial behaviour with young people attempting to climb onto the roof of shops in the area.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “A number of youths in the area were taken home to parents who were warned and advised about their child’s conduct and the company which they are keeping.

“All the details of youths identified and those believed to have been involved have been fed back into Barnsley South Neighbourhood Policing Team for further follow up on this issue.

“Throughout the night, checks were made of Elsecar Park and Heritage car parks, hot spots for vehicle antisocial behaviour as well as patrols of the Dearne Valley Parkway.

“A number of vehicles were stop checked but it proved to be a quiet night for any issues in these areas.”
