BARNSLEY has today become one of the first towns in the country to have access to the 5G network.

Faster wifi speeds will now be available at sites such as Wentworth Castle Gardens as shops and hospitality venues begin to reopen following lockdown measures.

5G is around 100 times faster than 4G and will be provided through EE.

Liz Needleman, BT Group regional lead for the North of England, said: “It’s fantastic that three more places in Yorkshire have received 5G on EE’s network today, as we continue to connect more towns and cities to the next generation in mobile network technology.

“With more people set to stay closer to home for short breaks and holidays this year, the fact people will have faster and more reliable connectivity is a real positive.

"Many people will also use a navigation app to find their way around a new place or use a browser on their phone to look up tourist information, so the arrival of 5G in these places is a timely boost.”
