ESSENTIAL engineering works will affect rail travel for people in Barnsley this weekend.

The works, north of Sheffield, will cause disruption from the town centre interchange in either direction.

Trains from Barnsley to Sheffield will use rail replacement buses from Meadowhall today and tomorrow (March 3 and March 4).

From Barnsley to Leeds, there will be a service every hour on Saturday and two services roughly every two hours on Sunday.

Bus services will operate a weekend timetable over the Bank Holiday.

Customers can also access the latest travel information by calling Traveline on 01709 515151, which will operate every day over the weekend between 8am and 7pm.

Tim Taylor, director of customer services for South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), said: “They will take place over the bank holiday to minimise disruption to passengers but, as some services will be affected, we’d like to remind everyone to plan ahead and check their journey before they travel.”
