POLICE officers went on patrol throughout the night in an attempt to crack down on car theft in the Hemingfield area.
Residents had reported seeing people attempt to gain access to their cars in the early hours of the morning.
A team from Barnsley South Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted patrols on Monday night (February 15) and stopped seven individuals, and recovered one vehicle that was believed to be stolen.
A spokesperson for the team said: “We patrolled the area on foot, on unmarked cycle and unmarked vehicle patrols and used night vision technology.
“This resulted in seven individuals being stopped and asked to account for their presence, two vehicles searched, one vehicle recovered suspected to be stolen, one individual issued a Section 59 warning notice, an offensive weapon taken off the street.
“We trust that this action goes someway to reassuring the public that we will always aim to do all we can to address the issues that matter.
“In the meantime, we would urge anyone experiencing such issues to report them either on line or on 101 to assist us in building up a picture of what is happening, when and where, placing us in a better position to be able to help.”
