RESIDENTS are urged to stay local when exercising during the third lockdown period.

South Yorkshire Police has stated that Barnsley residents can travel to local beauty spots for exercise, but are strongly advised to stay local to their home while doing so.

Superintendent Paul McCurry said: “It is not against the law to travel for exercise, but we do strongly encourage people to stay local and where possible and stay two metres apart.

“Travelling increases chances of road traffic collisions which put additional strain on emergency services and we want to minimise these.

“Those taking their daily exercise at beauty spots and local country parks are also reminded to park sensibly; do not block roads or people’s driveways and homes.

“Please only travel where necessary.”
