THE VOICES of a popular choir will ring out this evening as members take on a 13-hour sing-a-thon to help keep the choir going during the pandemic.

Barnsley Youth Choir members will take on the challenge to help bring in vital funds for the running of the choir.

The 400-strong group is a registered charity and usually relies on funds generated from concerts to keep running sessions.

However, due to the ongoing pandemic, concerts have been cancelled and the choir's annual trip to the World Choir Games has been postponed.

The choir will sing through the night tonight (January 29) from 8.30pm until 9.30am tomorrow morning.

Mat Wright, musical director of the choir said: “Lockdown has been tough for so many and the choir has been a real lifeline to so many young people.

“Please get behind them and support them as they try to raise money for their friends and try to keep the choir operational through these really difficult times.

This is a really important cause. We are a registered charity and every penny will go directly to support BYC youngsters.”

The choir has organised live streams to keep supporters updated on their progress.

If you would like to watch, tune in on the Barsley Youth Choir Facebook page at 8.30pm, and 9.30pm tonight, and at 8.30am tomorrow morning.
