FRAUDSTERS claiming to be working for Yorkshire Water have been targeting residents across the borough, bosses confirm.
Yorkshire Water have urged residents to be vigilant and warn those who may be vulnerable to cold callers.
The team have received numerous reports of conmen entering homes under the guise of a Yorkshire Water worker.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: “This warning comes after reports of conmen gaining access to homes in the region by pretending to be Yorkshire Water workers.
“We want you to feel safe, so if you’re unsure if a caller is from Yorkshire Water, you can call us on 0800 1 387878 to check their identity, we won’t mind.
“We also offer a free password scheme for people who want to add an extra layer of protection and peace of mind that callers are genuine.
“To set up a password, all you need to do is call 0800 1 387878.”
