COLLEGE students have been spreading festive cheer in the community by sending colourful messages to residents at a Worsbrough nursing home.

Elderly residents at Autumn House Nursing Home have received handmade cards with Christmas celebration messages created by level one health and social care students at Barnsley College.

Nichola Crossland, a student on the course, said: “The residents may not be able to see family or friends and it will be lonely this Christmas.

“I enjoyed making my card knowing that it may bring someone some happiness and make them feel loved.”

Danielle Robinson, a health, science and social care tutor, added: “Our aim is to let the residents know that although they have had a very lonely and isolated year, they have not been forgotten about.

“We hope that by making these cards, we can spread a little Christmas joy, and cheer up some residents by letting them know that our college community cares for them and is thinking about them at this difficult time.”
