POLICE in Wombwell are keen to identify a man captured on CCTV attempting to open car door handles in the early hours of the morning.
Officers from the Barnsley South East Neighbourhood Team have received reports of an unknown man trying car doors at around 3am on Foundry Gate and Kings Court in Wombwell.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “It would appear that the offender was an opportunist hoping to strike lucky with unlocked vehicles.
“Some vehicles were indeed unlocked but it is unclear at this stage if any valuables were stolen.
“CCTV exists of the offender but this is poor quality and the male cannot be identified.
“Wombwell Neighbourhood Team would like to remind residents to be extra vigilant and to ensure that vehicles are locked and secure at all times with no valuables left on display.”
