PARENTS across the borough will be able to access online parenting courses which can help people through every stage of having a child.

The courses will be available for anyone who is involved in a child's life – this includes parents, grandparents, carers, or other relatives or family friends.

Each course contains small modules and feature videos, animations, and reading sections to test knowledge.

The four courses are:

  • Understanding pregnancy, labour, and birth which is written by registered midwives

  • Understanding your baby which is tailored towards new parents and is written by psychologists and psychotherapists

  • Understanding your child from 0-19 years which is the main course of the scheme

  • Understanding your teenager's brain which helps parents to understand what happens as your child enters adolescence

Coun Margaret Bruff, cabinet spokesperson for children’s services, said: “These courses are a brilliant opportunity for anyone needing a bit of advice or help through the journey of becoming and being a parent. If you’re a parent, carer, grandparent, auntie, uncle or in some way related to a child’s life and want to understand more, please get in touch.

“We know that parents across Barnsley are doing a brilliant job, but everyone needs a little reassurance every now and then.

“These courses complement our face-to-face parent support and the early help offer in Barnsley.”
