PARENTS across the borough will be able to access online parenting courses which can help people through every stage of having a child.
The courses will be available for anyone who is involved in a child's life – this includes parents, grandparents, carers, or other relatives or family friends.
Each course contains small modules and feature videos, animations, and reading sections to test knowledge.
The four courses are:
Understanding pregnancy, labour, and birth which is written by registered midwives
Understanding your baby which is tailored towards new parents and is written by psychologists and psychotherapists
Understanding your child from 0-19 years which is the main course of the scheme
Understanding your teenager's brain which helps parents to understand what happens as your child enters adolescence
Coun Margaret Bruff, cabinet spokesperson for children’s services, said: “These courses are a brilliant opportunity for anyone needing a bit of advice or help through the journey of becoming and being a parent. If you’re a parent, carer, grandparent, auntie, uncle or in some way related to a child’s life and want to understand more, please get in touch.
“We know that parents across Barnsley are doing a brilliant job, but everyone needs a little reassurance every now and then.
“These courses complement our face-to-face parent support and the early help offer in Barnsley.”
