A COUNCILLOR has hit out at ‘mindless vandals’ after playground equipment was damaged at a park in Mapplewell.
On Wednesday, Mapplewell Park was struck by vandals who damaged the table tennis table, the cradle swing and the roundabout in the children’s play area.
Coun Steve Hunt, who represents the Darton East ward, is concerned the damage won’t be a quick fix.
He said: “Youths congregate in the park into the late hours of the night which could have caused this damage.
“This is just a case of mindless vandalism and it is hugely disappointing that this well-loved park has been left in such a state.
Coun Hunt has said a CCTV camera could be fitted in damage worsens.
“The table tennis table has been removed but at this stage I’m not sure if it’s repairable.
“I’m hopeful that this is an isolated one-off. If not, we may have to look into fitting CCTV cameras at the park.
“It is very important that we look after our green spaces, so it is disheartening to see the damage caused to a loved park.”
