A BELOVED firework display in Darfield has been cancelled due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.

The free event, which is usually held at Darfield Cricket Club, has been forced to halt its plans after the government’s ‘rule of six’ would make it illegal for crowds to gather.

Kris Jowitt, the club’s secretary, said: “It is with huge disappointment that we have to announce the cancellation of our annual firework display.

“We simply cannot run the event under the current government guidelines.

“We would like to thank you all for your support of the event in recent years. This is not the end for the Darfield Cricket Club firework display.

“We look forward to welcoming people back for the 2021 display.”
