PEOPLE arriving at Barnsley’s accident and emergency department must attend alone in a bid to minimise infection risk, hospital bosses warn.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, people are encouraged to attend alone unless they require assistance.

If a patient is underage or needs support, a maximum of one person can accompany them.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital said: “Physical visiting is allowed for patients who wish to have a visitor, patients who may be receiving life-changing news and patients in non-Covid critical care areas.

“If you are a birthing partner accompanying a woman in labour, the maternity team have published details about visiting arrangement here.

“This also applies to parents visiting a child in the children’s ward or neonatal unit or if the patient is receiving end-of-life care.”
