A BARNSLEY-based business has turned an act of culinary kindness into cash to donate to Bluebell Wood’s Children’s Hospice.

XPO Logistics, which has a branch in the borough, donated £500 to the charity after receiving a gift from a local bakery.

Haywood and Padgett, on Shawfield Road, delivered 1,000 scones to the branch as a goodwill gesture.

Grateful for the contribution, XPO Logistics made a £500 donation to the charity on their behalf.

Gavin Williams, managing director for XPO Logistics, said: “We were amazed by Haywood and Padgett’s mouth-watering gesture.

“It’s safe to say everyone was very full by the end of the day.

“Our teams decided that one good turn deserves another and after taking a vote, Bluebell Wood came out on top as their chosen charity.

“So many of us here at XPO have seen the charity’s life-changing work firsthand and we’ll continue to do what we can to help Bluebell Wood make a real difference to local families.”

XPO Logistics is a long-standing supporter of Bluebell Wood, raising almost £20,000 for the charity and a further £24,000 in bags of donated items to be sold at Bluebell Wood’s charity shops and online.

Rachael Dawes, corporate fundraising manager at Bluebell Wood, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to XPO Logistics for their generous donation and, of course, to Haywood and Padgett for their lovely gesture.

“XPO Logistics are an incredibly important charity partner for Bluebell Wood who really have gone above and beyond over the years.

“As well as raising eye-watering sums of money, colleagues from the firm have volunteered their time at many of our events and in various other areas of our work.

“Thanks to fantastic supporters like XPO Logistics we’re able to help local families make memories they’ll always treasure in the time they have together.”
