A COMMUNITY group has urged the public not to drop litter after a wrapper was found from more than three years ago.

The Mapplewell Greenspace Group collected 17 bags of litter on a litter pick in Staincross yesterday (August 22).

Coun Steve Green joined 11 volunteers from the group to help tidy the area from Ibberson Gardens, Windhill Lane, Staincross Common, and Wakefield Road.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We covered a very large area so 17 bags may not sound like a lot, but it is still too much litter.

“Some of the litter was quite old. A chocolate wrapper that had the best before date of January 2017 was found – it will take hundreds of years to decompose.

“Please don't drop litter.”
