POLICE are asking for information after a road traffic collision left an elderly woman with life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, August 20 at around 7.47pm a silver Seat Leon reacted to police presence and fled the area of Summer Lane, Wombwell.

The Seat drove over the mini roundabout on the intersection of Copeland Road and Main Street and collided with a blue Hyundai i10.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 62-year-old-woman, and the 85-year-old passenger were freed from the Hyundai by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue who were both taken to hospital by ambulance.

The 62 year-old woman suffered minor injuries and the 85 year-old woman remains in a critical condition.

The 19-year-old driver of the Seat Leon was arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit for drugs, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, theft of a motor vehicle and motoring offences.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “It is believed the driver of the Seat had two passengers in the car at the time, and officers are keen to identify and speak to them in connection to the incident.

“We’d also like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, who saw the Seat Leon’s driving manner prior to the collision, has dash-cam footage or any information about the two men who we believe fled the scene.
