A PARK in Wombwell is going smoke-free in a new scheme launched by the area council.

The South Area Council has invited young people to design a poster warning residents that Wombwell Park is a no-smoking zone.

The winning entry will receive a prize and the poster will be displayed around the park.

A spokesperson from Barnsley South Area Council said: “Following in the footsteps of Elsecar and Locke Park, the community in Wombwell would like to see their park become smoke-free too.

“We would like to invite local youngsters to design a poster making people aware that the park is smoke-free and enter it into a poster competition.

“There are three age categories: seven years old and under, eight to 11 years old and 11 to 16 years old.

“Please put your name, age and contact number on the back of your poster and the closing date for entries is August 21.”

To get involved, drop off the posters at Wombwell Cemetery Community Hub on Wednesday mornings from 10am until 12pm, or Wombwell Park Pavilion on August 6 and August 11.

Alternatively, you can email your poster to amandabradshaw@barnsley.gov.uk.
