A RESTORED Spitfire will fly over local hospitals to pay tribute to the hardworking NHS.

The flyover was organised by the Aircraft Restoration Company, based in Cambridge, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the NHS and to recognise the courage of frontline staff.

Names of nominated heroes will be painted on the plane as well as the words 'Thank U NHS'.

Nominations will be open until September 20 and all the proceeds will go towards NHS charities.

The plane will fly over multiple hospitals in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and spectators can view the plane as it flies over Barnsley Hospital today (July 11) at approximately 5.20pm.
