BARNSLEY Council has released advice to help keep people safe as playgrounds and outdoor gyms reopen today (July 6).

The parks and services team have inspected each site to ensure that the equipment is safe to use.

Signage has also been installed to help remind the public of how to keep safe while they use the facilities.

The council has also released a list of guidelines to help prevent the spread of the virus.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Clean your hands and equipment before and after use, avoid touching faces and do not put mouths on equipment. Do not eat or drink inside the areas, and make sure to use the dedicated entrances and exits.”

Coun Chris Lamb, cabinet spokesperson for environment and transport, said: "We’re pleased to be able to safely reopen our playgrounds and outdoor facilities from Monday July 6 for you and your family to enjoy.

“Please be patient with us as some sites may take longer than others to reopen due to grass cutting, reinstalling swings and more.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has observed government guidance at our parks and open spaces so far.

“We ask that everyone continues to social distance, wash their hands regularly and read the signs displayed around our play areas."
