BARNSLEY’S Halifax branch will remain closed until further notice following concerns of a coronavirus outbreak.

The bank, on Queen Street, closed on Monday after a positive test for the virus was confirmed among its staff.

Staff have been told to self-isolate whilst the shop undergoes a deep clean.

A spokesperson from Halifax said: “We have temporarily closed our Barnsley branch to allow for the building to be cleaned, after a colleague was diagnosed with Covid-19.

“Our priority is the wellbeing of our colleagues and customers.

“We will continue to follow government guidance, and have taken the precautionary steps to advise some colleagues to self-isolate.

“We will reopen the branch at the appropriate time.”
