A LOCAL band raised more than £3,100 to help provide scrubs to at least 310 care workers across the borough.

Comedy band The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican hosted a three-hour long livestream concert to raise money.

It was done in honour of For The Love of Scrubs, a campaign in which designers and sewers have been crafting and designing scrubs for hospital and care workers around Barnsley.

Frontman Scott Doonican organised the livestream, as his sister Sarah White, 31, helped to set up the Barnsley campaign.

Sarah said: “I want to say a huge thank you to my brother for raising an incredible £3,100 for fabric for scrubs in the space of just a couple of days.

“I would like to thank each and every person who donated. Such an amazing and generous fan base across the country supporting the NHS in Barnsley and surrounding areas.

“This will all be spent on materials and will dress at least 310 doctors, nurses and carers.

“The group’s fanbase is widespread, so to see them come together to support a Barnsley cause like this is absolutely unbelievable.

“We’re completely overwhelmed with this response.”
