BARNSLEY Museums have announced an exciting range of free family activities taking place over the Easter school holidays.

From Saturday until Sunday, April 6, families can get creative and active across the museum's five free heritage attractions.

Younger visitors will be whisked away to Wonderland in a fantastic, free family trail in Cannon Hall’s parklands, and even experience a gentle and playful BSL and Relaxed performance of Thumbelina on Tuesday, March 26, in the magical setting of the Ballroom.

In the town centre, there will be an art workshop in the Cooper Gallery on Tuesday, April 2, from 10am until 12noon and from 1pm until 3pm.

At Think Ink! younger artists can learn new skills and create their own masterpieces.

At Experience Barnsley Museum, people can make their own ‘Mini Magical World’ inspired by The Magic of Middle-earth exhibition currently on display every day, from 10am to 4pm, until Saturday, April 6.

Also taking place in the Museum on Tuesday, March 26 is Sensational, a multisensory experience, for families with PMLD, autism or who are neurodiverse.

There’s also some cracking fun at Elsecar Heritage Centre where families can collect all the bunnies in the Easter Egg-Stravaganza Trail from Saturday until Sunday, 7 April.

At Worsbrough Mill and Country Park, there will be some nature-themed creative fun, as young visitors will be able to make their own clay pot decorated with beautiful leaves and flowers to take home on Friday, April 5, from 10am until 12noon and from 1pm until 3pm.

For those who want to explore the great outdoors, sensory trails in Worsbrough Mill Country Park and Cannon Hall Parklands will be available throughout the Easter break during opening hours.

Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Barnsley Museums is the perfect spot for families during the Easter break. Our five free heritage attractions will have lots on offer for great low-cost days out. No matter what the weather there will be something to do, that could be getting creative in our galleries or exploring our fabulous outside spaces.”
