Imagine you are stood by the Alhambra Roundabout and the exit to the left where the bike is approaching takes you now down the side of the Alhambra, at the bottom you turn left and round the back and into the Car Parks and right onto the road that takes you down past A1 Taxis and round onto Pontefract Road.

It used to be the Alhambra theatre and in the early 70's part of the ground floor was made into the Changes disco.

Yes, the door on the right led to the lower ground floor disco, Changes, in the 70s, but I was not a regular then, only went in on odd occasions.
Going back to the later mid 60s I used to use the door to the left to go into the black light/black wall disco which was still in the name of the Alhambra. Everything was dark in those black light places, but white things used to show up, including false teeth, lol, and white underwear, fluff on collars etc. The beer in the glass looked like engine oil. Sometimes the lights would come on and the police would walk in, doing spot checks, checking ages. I never got pulled even though I had my first pint at 15 and was a regular in those places at ages 16 and 17. We just used to stand at the bar, pint in hand, looking confident. Lol.
The symbol/logo of the Alhambra was an elephant, which was on many items related to the place.

I'm having second thought about this being the same building that I remember in the 60s. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

Lol. I remember, now. The pub and the theatre were separate buildings. Time plays tricks, lol.
The theatre was up towards the old Ebenezer Church. The pub was down the road, nearer to town. If I remember right this time, the Alhambra Elephant was etched onto the pub windows.

my mother and her sister lived near to the Alhambra and would take their babies in with them if they wanted to watch a film. I imagine it was an everyday occurrence before TV

Its the Alhambra Theatre/Cinema/Bingo hall. It was a cinema until the early 60s, closed for short time then reopened as Top Rank Bingo about 1969 until about 1977, then it was Vale Bingo until about 1980 when it was closed permanently and was demolished a couple of years later.

The building was VERY close to the Alhambra roundabout, which was made in the mid 70s (the construction of the roundabout was so close to the building that access to the thriving bingo hall became an obstacle course, so bad that customers abandoned it in droves) Top Rank sold the business to Vale Bingo, but after a mini revival the business declined further until it was no longer viable.

There was another, much smaller building just a few yards along the road, confusingly also called "Alhambra" It is this smaller building which is remembered as bar/pub and incorporated "Changes"
