THE popular Flavours Food Festival is returning to the town centre next week.

The event, in The Glass Works Square, will feature over 70 stalls, live music and entertainment for all the family.

Last year’s event attracted thousands of visitors and, with a growing footprint and number of stalls, plus live music and entertainment, organisers are excited to welcome even more foodies from all over Yorkshire once again.

The festivities run 10am-6.30pm on Thursday May 16, 10am-7pm on Friday May 17, 10am-8pm on Saturday May 18 and 10am-5pm on Sunday May 19.

The exciting line-up of street food vendors for 2024 offers something for everyone with food from all over the world including Italy, Turkey, Greece, Japan, Mexico, Canada and more!

There is also live music, three bars serving the finest beers and cocktails, and a fantastic range of artisan crafters, makers, artists and more.

Barnsley has always had a strong affiliation with markets, and this year, the historic Barnsley Market at the centre of The Glass Works is celebrating its 775th anniversary. As part of the celebration, Barnsley Market will be open until 5pm on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the festival, with a special Sunday market from 10am-4pm on the Sunday.

The Flavours Food Festival kickstarts an exciting year-long events calendar in The Glass Works and Barnsley town centre with Barnsley Live and the new Barnsley 10k taking place in June, Barnsley’s Big Weekend including the Brassed On! festival in July, the Garden Party in September and Barnsley Bright Nights and the return of the Barnsley Christmas Market bringing us into the festive season.

Matt O’Neill, Executive Director of Growth and Sustainability for Barnsley Council, said: “It is fantastic that we are able to bring the Flavours Food Festival back to The Glass Works again this year, and the continued success means we can expand the festival and welcome more visitors to our fantastic town centre this spring.

"The Glass Works Square allows us as a local council to deliver a packed programme of free, family-friendly events in Barnsley town centre, and this year we plan to take full advantage of The Glass Works, our historic market, the wider town centre and the expanded public realm around the newly opened Market Gate Bridge, with as many events as possible throughout the year.

"We have an amazing offer within Barnsley town centre and want to extend a warm Barnsley welcome to all our visitors and residents. We want everyone to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the Flavours Food Festival, as well as exploring the wider food, drink and leisure offering including Cineworld, Superbowl UK, The Botanist, Barnsley Market, The Victorian Arcade and more."
