BARNSLEY officers are appealing for information following a reported burglary in which several items of jewellery were allegedly stolen.

Around 10.58pm on Sunday March 17, police received reports of a break-in at Wood Walk in Wombwell.

An Audi Q5 was stolen along with sentimental pieces of distinctive jewellery.

An investigation has since been launched and the vehicle has been recovered and returned to its owners.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have both since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are asking for the public's help to locate the pieces of jewellery which include a silver and gold watch as well as various necklaces and rings.

PC Dan Baker, who is the officer in charge of the case, said: "We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and although the car has been recovered we are now keen to trace the pieces of jewellery as they are of great sentimental value to the owners."
