A BARNSLEY woman will be joining thousands of young people and their loved ones for an awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace next month.
Amy Sutheran, 23, has won the gold Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award and will be at the event, hosted by Prince Edward on May 10 which will mark the Prince's first celebration as patron of the DofE charity.
Amy said: “I completed my gold DofE whilst working full-time as a learning disability nurse at an inpatient ward. I chose to learn a new skill of knitting Easter chicks raising £256.50 for charity Make a Wish UK.
“I also volunteered and continue to volunteer as a Girlguiding South Yorkshire (Barnsley West) unit leader for Rainbows aged four to seven. This is a rewarding experience watching girls grow and develop before moving onto Brownies at age seven.
“During my experience doing DofE I learnt all about resilience and working as a team to support each other through a tough experience during the expedition where we were exposed to different weather conditions.
“I chose to volunteer at a Girlguiding festival called Wellies and Wristbands, this was for my residential part, I met other people from Girlguiding UK whilst being a part of the inflatables volunteer team.”
