RESIDENTS attended a meeting last Monday to discuss the future of a local church.

Silkstone Common Methodist Church. – lauded as a hub for the community – hasn’t been used for worship for some time and is set to be sold.

Silkstone Parish Council held its annual meeting on at the church, which saw locals attend to hear about the next steps.

MP Miriam Cates recently discussed the building’s future – alongside that of many other Methodist churches which have been appearing for sale – in Parliament.

She added: “Silkstone Common Methodist Church hasn’t been used for worship for some time but it’s a really important space where a wide range of community groups meet regularly.

“The parish council have managed to have the building listed as an asset of community value.

“I know a lot of local groups rely on the building as a meeting space, so I’ll continue to give whatever help I can to Silkstone Parish Council as they consider the options going forward.”
