Royston Gymnast Eleanor Simpson has this weekend won the British Tumbling Championships for the 2nd year running.
This prestigious event was held at the LG Arena in Birmingham over two days. Eleanor qualified for Sundays final by completing two solid runs to finish second in Saturdays preliminary round.
Eleanor performed 2 brilliant tumble passes in the final. Her speed and power was amazing in the first pass which gave her the lead. She then performed a second pass which ended with a double twisting double back somersault to take the Gold Medal. Such was the difficulty of the second pass that only a handful of 13 year olds in the World have ever performed it before.
Eleanor won last years Championship as one of the oldest competitors in the 11 - 12 year old age group. This years win was even more impressive as she has only just moved up to the 13 - 14 year old age group so was one of the youngest in the category.
Eleanor's next challenge is to make the Great Britain team for the 2013 World Championships, which will be held in Sofia Bulgaria during November.
Great Britain Tumblers are some of the best in the world and have won more medals,on the world stage than any other section of British Gymnastics. Despite this British Gymnastics provide no funding to Tumbling so if anyone is interested in providing sponsorship for Eleanor please contact Eleanors Dad Mark on 07545 226204.
