TAXI! Town For A Pound Scheme Gets A Slow Start

Wednesday June 15 2011

We Are Barnsley went to meet Barnsley's Hackney Carriage Association to hear about its new 'Town For` A Pound' scheme - an initiative which launched where anyone in Barnsley can flag a hackney for a lift into the town centre, and pay just a quid.
Have you used it yet?

why is it impossible? the drivers pick people up on their way back to town from a job thay have been on. for example you would pick someone up take them to the desired destination and drive back to town...driving back to town earns nothing for them so they mighnt aswell earn a few more quid by picking people up on their way. benefits driver by income and benifits you, the public by being cheaper than train or bus.

Could be good for some people.  Only thing is, I can walk into town in under 5 minutes.  I used to cycle till I moved to Barnsley and now everything is in walking distance.  I suppose if you don't like cycling/walking, a taxi to town for £1 is handy.
