ooooh and what about the Co-op in the 60s when it had those wires across the shop that whizzed money about in a little capsule! Magic - and the lovely rounded glass windows at the entrance.

All the shops were different thenselling british made individual items in the likes of Wymans, Newmans, Pearl's Co-op Butterfields.Today every ladies clothes shop in every town sells the same imported clothes even Marks and Spencers.

Christine- I think that electrical (music) shop on Market Street may have been Isherwoods. I remember it subsequently being owned by another Barnsley family (name on the tip of my tongue, but I just cannot recall it) They eventually moved to the arcade. Left hand side going down, where they traded for many years. Really annoyed that I cannot recall the name.

Kirst- Yes, Neals. There was a tall, slim man worked there for many years. Lived in the Worsbrough Common area. Nice man. Perhaps that was your grandad.

Only lived in Yorkshire since 73 but loved Butterfields shop in fact my mother came up from down south and I couldn't get her out of the shop, they were trying to close, but she was obsessed with the bedding, towels etc, had to push her out for them to shut up
