Sugar tax comes into force

Friday April 6 2018

FROM today (April 6) customers will be charged additional tax on sugary drinks in a bid to tackle unhealthy eating habits.

Shoppers will have to pay an extra 18p or 24p tax per litre on drinks depending on how much sugar is in the drink.

Some drinks prices could see an increase of about 25% depending on how much sugar has been added to the drink.

Several soft drinks companies have reduced the amount of sugar content in their drinks ahead of the tax changes such as Lucozade, Ribena and J20 however Coca-Cola and Pepsi have not made any changes to date.
