Council awarded £2.2m to complete Thurnscoe houses

Friday February 2 2018

BARNSLEY Council has been awarded £2.2m to build up to 440 new homes in Thurnscoe.

The money is part of the government’s £866 million investment in local housing projects to get much-needed homes built quicker.

The funding will be used to help complete Phase 3 of the former REEMA estate in Thurnscoe.

The estate was demolished as part of the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder Programme in the late 2000s, as the original properties were in low demand and made of a non-traditional construction which would have cost a large amount of money to update.

Since 2015 the site has seen the completion of 160 homes and work is due to start on a further 129 houses in the spring.

Once completed, the development will hold an additional 440 new two, three and four bedroom houses and bungalows.
