Pals' Square expected to become smoke free

Wednesday April 12 2017

The Square The Square

THE BARNSLEY Pals' Centenary Square is set to become the first place in the town centre to become smoke free.

Barnsley Council's Cabinet members are expected to approve the plans at their meeting next Wednesday.

The introduction of smoke free town centre zones was approved by Cabinet in July 2016 as part of a tobacco control programme of work to inspire a smoke free generation in Barnsley.

Several parks in Barnsley - including Locke Park - have become 'smoke free' since the start of the year.

If approved by Cabinet, the square will become smoke free on June 30 - a date which will mark the 10 year anniversary of smoke free legislation.

Ban tobacco, legalise cannabis. Job done.
