I thought car road tax and fuel taxes paid for roads and road repairs. Or is the money being mis-spent elsewhere?

Am I wrong in thinking that our taxes paid for the motorways in the first place - so, if the Government are going to 'hand' them over, shouldn't the tax payers get a 'cut'? In the long run, the major/minor roads will become busier which will have the knock on effect that our local councils will have more road repairs to do - will that then put our local council tax up too? Robbing Peter to pay Paul springs to mind!

Money that is supposed to go towards building and maintaining roads has been misapporpriated for years. It's one giant rip off in the UK. Tax your income first, then tax what's left on your spending, then tax your pension. When you're dead they tax your kids inheritance.

Thats why all the roads that were once national speed limit 60mph's were reduced to 50mph and thats still not enough to force the issue so now there is talk of a blanket 40mph to all roads with corners or junctions so that when they do let motorways label 80mph and toll roads are then introduced we have no alterative routes and we are forced onto them to get anywhere...this has been in the planning through the past government and now this one...nothing can stop it
