Major roadworks coming to Cundy Cross

Wednesday February 22 2017

Roadworks will start on Monday (February 27) Roadworks will start on Monday (February 27)

MAJOR roadworks will start at Cundy Cross on Monday that will last until the end of the summer.

The works - to the roundabout and Littleworth Lane at the junction with Pontefract Road - will involve replacing the roundabout with a signal controlled junction, and alterations to Rotherham Road including a new signalled controlled junction to Meadow View.

The work will also include upgrading the existing traffic light controlled junction of Littleworth Lane and Pontefract Road, upgrading street lighting and signing and lining improvements.

Temporary traffic signals will be installed during the work, which is expected to be completed by the end of Summer 2017.

The scheme will be carried out by Barnsley Councils Highways, Engineering and Transportation Service (HET) and has been funded through the Department of Transport’s Integrated Transport Fund and Local Highways Maintenance Fund.

Money received from the sale of the former Priory school site will also be going towards the scheme.

One good thing about it is that it will stop vehicles jumping the queing traffic at the top of Pontifact Road coming from Barnsley using the right hand lane
(intended for Grange Lane traffic)
then racing the car on the left to get on to the Lundwood part of Pontifract Road or going round and round the roundabout,,,,,impatient idiots like these have no respect for other road users and cause accidents on the roads

As if we need any more traffic lights. Are they completely mad.

Think I'll get rid of the car,so many selfish drivers who don't know what indicaters are for and slow traffic up at roundabouts. Also the amount of cars with Gary lights is getting to be an epidemic. Rant over !.

Gary lights? must have had predictive text on, should say Faulty!

Great, we really need more lights on roundabouts, which were incidentally designed to increase traffic flow at junctions ( no lights )
I wonder why the traffic flow vastly increases at the stairfoot roundabout every time the lights fail???
Get ready for more congestion people of Lundwood!!

that would be the stairfoot roundabout originally constructed to get rid of the traffic light

Hope they are better than the team digging the road up near mount pub. Making a cycle lane. Why? We all know Barnsley cyclists use the pavements.
At least I will have a laugh on my to work, 40 mins late.
There were 8 workmen on site last week. 1 leaning on a spade, 3 telling him what to do with it. 1 sat in a car reading a newspaper, 2 on their phones eating bacon butties and 1 billy no mates walking up and down middle of road trying to look important, but was really just asking to be run over. Good luck motorists

Pointless traffic lights at a roundabout that doesn't need them tbh. If people actually went onto roundabout in lanes they are supposed to go in it may be less of a bother to everyone.
