Should cannabis be made legal?

Should cannabis be made legal? Should cannabis be made legal?

A NEW report suggests that the UK should follow in California’s footsteps and legalise cannabis.

The report into domestic drugs policy says that if cannabis were made legal and regulated by the Government, taxation from sales and savings from the justice system could net the Treasury up to £1bn.

Cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK, with 6.7 per cent of adults aged between 16 to 59 using it in the past year, according to the Home Office.

What do you think? Should cannabis be legalised Leave your comments below...

Legalizing it is fine so long as its only allowed in private spaces. Like tobacco, it stinks vile and walking past people openly smoking it on the street is disgusting.
I have no issue with what people do to their own body as long as it does not affect other people, and like all forms of smoking it should be restricted away from public spaces.
The amount of people openly smoking it in public places these days you would think it was already legal. Nobody seems to care anymore.

It should be legalized I know some of the nicest people ever that have got criminal records for being caught with tiny amounts on them but why what dose smoking a joint do to you it relaxes you makes you think how to overcome problems in your life it has thousands of medical uses to help people and its illegal but yet drinking alcohol is perfectly fine and dandy witch costs the NHS how much a year ?

So you know some of the nicest people ever that have got criminal records for being caught with tiny amounts on them

That's because it is ILLEGAL !!!!!

I think Liam knows that it is illegal which is why people have got criminal records for being caught with tiny amounts of them... It is hard to shake off that criminal record when you are applying for jobs. Although some employers are a bit sympathetic.
The debate is about whether cannabis should be made legal. I think it should. A lot of people use it and it does them good. It would be better if it was legal so people wouldn't have to go out mixing with drug dealers.

I have to say, I think if everyone who gets hammered in the town centre on a weekend smoked weed instead, there'd probably be a lot less violence.

It should be legal for all

Yeah I agree that it should be made legal. I know so many people who smoke it & it doesn't change who they are as a person. There's a lot less violence because it relaxes you. There has been no recorded deaths from this drug, where as alcohol on the other hand kills thousands. It'd get the country out of debt.

Should be legalised for everyone, would cut crime rate by half freeing up 1000s of hours of valuable police, court systems and prison time & money, plus the money government would make from taxing it will be in the millions a year if not billions great for the economy

Exactly.

Legal for medical purposes not for lazy bums to sit around getting stoned that would just be stupid

No, it should not be legalised.

why is that brian?

It should be legalised for pragmatic reasons, you will take millions from criminals, folk who smoke won't have to go to dealers and be offered hard drugs as well, the tax revenue and money saved from not policing it could go into NHS. Also not enforcing the law which is pretty much the situation today makes a mockery of all the drug laws and sends out the message that drug laws can be cherry picked as to what you obey. Prohibition hasn't worked, let's try something different, what have we got to lose?

Well said William. A strong case to be made for de criminalising cannabis. It has been a massive waste of time for the police and courts, although I don't think the police are exactly all over it - when it suits them, they will enforce it though.

I wonder if THE FOOLS who want this evil narcotic legalised would feel the same if one of their family members were MOWED DOWN BY A NUTTER SPEEDING , HIGH ON THE STUFF !!!!!!. The reaper says NO

Yet another stupid ignorant brain dead comment by the grim reaper. What a fool. Mowed down. I. Would rather be 'mowed down' by a person high on speed than a drunk driver. I've never met a person who was high on weed that managed to drive faster than 12mph. Saying that i can't see them being bothrred to get in a car high. Especially when dominoes pizza deliver.

Weed not speed pardon my spelling

Reply Posted by Tony on Thursday November 24 2016 at 12:47
Don't the same rules apply to driving under the influence of drugs as they do to drink driving already ?.Anybody who drives a motor vehicle when they have made themselves less able to control it is a danger to other people whether they've partaken of cannabis, crystal meth or John Smiths.

Reply Posted by Annie on Thursday November 24 2016 at 13:56
The same rules do apply. Drug driving is the same as drunk driving. I don't want to be run over or crashed into by anybody who can't control a car, whether it is through drink, drugs or just being a dangerous selfish idiot.

Apparently people can't drive over 12mph while stoned as stupidly stated in a previous post i would go and read some new stories and fact based evidence and put down the joint pal. Its impares your mental capacity so lets not sugar coat it. Weed legal for people suffering debilitating illness YES. Weed legal for losers to smoke there brains out NO.
