POLICE have released CCTV images of a man who they want to speak to after a pensioner was the victim of an attempted fraud.

An unknown man visited the home of an 84-year-old on Thursday, October 27 and demanded money for bogus building work at the property.

He left empty handed - however officers believe it may have been a targeted attack.

Detective Constable David Baker explained: “The man has previously been the victim of crime with a similar method of obtaining money from him, whereby someone has visited his home and falsely claimed to have done some work.

“Additional measures were put in place to protect the gentleman and crime prevention advice was provided, and fortunately this does appear to have assisted in this attempt to defraud him.

“I want to make the public aware though of this type of crime and people posing as officials, or claiming work has been done or needs to be carried at your property.

“Whenever someone knocks at your door, if applicable put the door chain on and look through a spyhole or a window to see who it is. Before you answer the door make, sure other doors that provide access to your home are locked.

“Always ask for an identity card and examine it carefully. If you’re still unsure you can always ask them to return later when someone will be with you or alternatively, ask them to wait outside while you call their employer.
