Delays expected on major road

Thursday November 3 2016

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect delays on Sheffield Road in Hoyland, when temporary traffic lights are set up next Monday that will be there until late December.

From Monday November 7, temporary traffic lights will be installed on the A6135 Sheffield Road, near the Cross Keys pub, as part of the Birdwell Highway Improvements Scheme.

The traffic lights will operate until Tuesday, December 20.

This 'improvement' works is an disgrace that will make what was a simple journey into a nightmare. The new roundabouts - yes you need to navigate more than one under the changes - reach FIVE lanes wide at one point.

Why oh why didn't they just accept that the lights around the motorway roundabout had caused the problems and reverse that decision instead?

Hmmm, You clearly have not been through the small A61/A6135/A6195 roundabout at a remotely busy time. It cannot cope with current traffic let alone projected traffic that will come from the massive developments proposed at Birdwell and along the A6195.

The big 5 lane gyratory will have much more capacity and will be easy to navigate by following the signs.
