Big changes could be made to bus services Big changes could be made to bus services

TRANSPORT bosses have announced a potential shake-up of bus services in Barnsley - that could see some big changes made to the town's bus network.

Plans for a new bus network and ticket system in Barnsley are to be put to transport chiefs for approval next Monday (November 7), following consultation with local communities and councillors on proposed changes for the borough.

It would see changes to bus timetables, routes and frequencies - that would be introduced in January 2017. Bus services that could change include:

7 - Hoyland/ Milton/ Rockingham/ Stairfoot/ Worsborough. Hourly service between Barnsley, Blacker Hill and Hoyland via Ardsley Road and Hunningley Lane to improve accessibility for the White Cross estate.

20/21/22 - Dodworth. 15 minute coordinated daytime service between services 20, 21 and 22 to improve spacing between buses.

67/67a -Worsborough/ Rockingham. Improved half-hourly service between Barnsley, Hoyland Common and Wombwell, alternately serving Ward Green and Pilley, both on an hourly basis. Service 67 will replace service 220 between Wombwell and Cortonwood.

203 - Darfield/ Dearne South. Serving Little Houghton instead of service X26. Passengers can interchange at Wombwell for onward journeys to Barnsley.

X27 - Darfield/ Dearne South. Serving Wombwell to improve interchange opportunities for passengers travelling to employment sites at Grimethorpe e.g. XPO Logistics.

222 -Dearne South. Replacing service 203 at Aldham House to provide a more frequent service to Barnsley.

29 - Penistone. Chapeltown-Sheffield section of route re-allocated to provide connections between Chapeltown-Penistone-Holmfirth, with one morning and afternoon Penistone - Sheffield peak hour trip via Northern General Hospital. Chapeltown-Sheffield journeys via Northern General Hospital remain available every 6 minutes on Sheffield service 1/1a.

23/23a/24/24a - Penistone. Two-hourly services between Barnsley - Thurgoland - Green Moor - Oxspring - Penistone – Ingbirchworth, and Stocksbridge - Wortley - Thurgoland - Penistone - Thurlstone - Millhouse Green. Two-hourly services between Stocksbridge - Green Moor - Thurgoland – Barnsley.

92 - Old Town/ Penistone. Operating Barnsley - Cawthorne via Dodworth Road and Higham to provide access to Dodworth Medical Centre and improve connections to Capitol Park employment area.

Proposals also include the introduction of new ‘B-Connect’ Day, seven day and 28 day tickets that can be used on any bus and will offer a discount compared to current multi-operator tickets available in the town.

92 should not use Dodworth Rd but maybe initially run from start of Huddersfield Rd as it is not serviced from College to Wilthorpe, and IMHO there are plenty running Dodworth Rd !

How about amending these "Proposals" by letting the public know which company will run it... People buy different tickets etc.

Just shows that the 'Consultation' was a complete and utter bloody FARCE - as usual with 'consultations. Ref. the 92. There were numerous objections to the loss of a service to the hospital etc. and loss of a bus serving longley Rd area, which have been totally ignored.
Just proves that it was all settled long before publication and they will do what they damn well want no matter what so why bother with the pretence of consultation.

that x27 should be goldthorpe not darfield

The x27 serves darfield, goldthorpe and grimethorpe. It picks people up for Asos.

The x27 is no longer going to serve goldthorpe and serve wombwell instead

The rerouted X27 will be like the current X26 when it leaves Cat Hill roundabout

Yorkshire Tiger to run 7, 23/23a/24/24a & 203

No use for the ones who live in Hoyland and work in grimethorpe. If I miss the28a at 11.07. My choices are the walk from town or 26 and walk from Womb well.Neither are safe for a woman alone.Stagecoach don't have the intelligence or decency to just let the last 67 run to meet the 26

Never use busses. Don't like to mix with the lower classes.

where did you learn how to spell, DTT?

Yep, figures no bus on Huddersfield Road from the Town Centre to Queens Drive. Whilst some may say that this is only a short work, if you are elderly or have low mobility then it is difficult. Thank you Tates and thank you Stagecoach!

To the hilariously named person 'busy, busy, busy'....
Why on earth are you trying to mock people who would like to get a bus to work in the morning and another one home again in the evening?
Sorry but a lot of people do a 9 to 5 job, including office jobs. Why are you trying to take the p.ss? Would love to know what you do to earn a living and keep 'busy, busy, busy' apart from being a WAB troll. If you don't need buses, good for you. People who do work need buses though.

I work for a living and have done for 42 years in different jobs in different places, another 6 years before retirement. I haven't had a car for 10 years as it was expensive to run and I could get a train from Barnsley to Sheffield and back, walking to and from the station from Wilthorpe or get a bus when possible. As I am getting older and arthritic the walking is not so easy so I would love a bus service that gets me from home to the station and back. Yes I am busy, also tired!

Glad you found my post hilarious ???????? That was the aim. Too many miserable old gits just don't see the joke. I think "working for a living" has it spot on. Busses from door to workplace for all. A bus stop outside everyone's house. Utopia.
