THE ALHAMBRA has announced the details of its Christmas light switch on and late night shopping.

The centre will be lighting up for Christmas on November 16 between 5-7pm, on the lower level outside of Iceland.

The Alhambra's impressive line-up this year includes hero pups, and brings a battle against the imperialist forces as live lightsaber training takes place on stage.

Winners of the Dearne FM School Choir competition will also be performing and visitors will have the chance to bag lots of exciting prizes as free giveaways run throughout the event.

Finally, Santa will be joining the Alhambra team on stage handing out goodies, before concluding the event by switching on the lights - which are brand new for this year.

Steph Higham, Alhambra Marketing Manager said: “Christmas is an exciting time at the Alhambra and our light switch on will get everyone into the festive spirit. We have a great selection of entertainment on offer including Santa to switch on our brand new decorations.”

The event marks the start of a range of Christmas activities, including late night shopping, taking place every Wednesday and Friday from Wednesday, November 23 until 8pm. There will also be a Santa’s grotto where children can write a letter to Santa and in return receive a virtual reply.

There will also be a 4D Sleigh experience for customers to enjoy.

Where, at the Alhambra? I don't remember the last time it happened there. Are you thinking of the annual event at the Town Hall?

Public money?

How on earth will a Christmas lights switch on, in a little shopping centre to promote their opening hours and products, come from public money? Do you think the Alhambra Centre is run by the council?

Not a waste of money it's for children Rita it's Chrisssssmas

No, Shirley, it's the Alhambra centre doing a Christmas promotion funded by themselves. if any money is wasted it will be theirs not public money.

Regardless of the events purpose there needs to be clear walkway areas defines by safety railings - the last few years have been horrendous. By having clearly defined areas with set capacity, monitored and controlled by officials the authority would mitigate some of the risks. If there was a panic event people will be trampled and crushed (as happened at the Civic when someone shouted "Fire" - killed 16 children - see plaque).

Take a look at the article - this is for the Alhambra Light switch on not the town centre council switch on. Alhambra have not had a switch on for a few years now since the council took the switch on up to the town hall.
