Barnsley to Wakefield bus service saved

Wednesday September 21 2016

Bus Interchange Bus Interchange

A BUS service in Barnsley has been saved from cancellation after another operator agreed to take over the route.

Waterson’s Coaches will begin running service 193, which operates between Barnsley and Wakefield, on Monday October 31.

The current service’s operator, Arriva had planned to cease the service at the end of October.

However, following feedback from local residents and councillors, a new agreement with Waterson’s Coaches was secured as part of the Barnsley Bus Partnership.

Waterson’s Coaches will provide approximately one bus per hour during Monday to Saturday daytimes, retaining the links between Barnsley, Royston, Ryhill, New Crofton and Wakefield.

More information on the upcoming change to service 193 will be available at travelsouthyorkshire.com/servicechanges before service commencement.

If the journey didn't take so long to Wakefield people will use this route instead of the 59 route

I used to use this often to get myself in and out of wakefield because of stagecoach charging nearly a quid more. On a tight budget to get into wakey with arriva was a god send.

I wouldn't catch Arriva with the scum on it . December 2014 I caught that 194 and had been working, cleaning the most filthy and disgusting bungalow , some hard faced fishwife scrubber bitch remarked that ''people shouldn't be allowed on bus stinking like that'' . She'd obviously never done a hands' turn in her dole scrounging life.

Further proof, were any needed, that what is required is a return to publically owned and operated transport services, not competing private businesses.

I too remember when three busses an hour ran from Barnsley to Ryhill and Havercroft. the full extent of both main roads in each village being fully serviced.

Godd that someone has taken this up but pity its just during the day where the passengers are and not at night or Sunday where there is less passengers, maybe if thats what Arriva did then they would be still running it
