Barnsley celebrates best ever GCSE results

Thursday August 25 2016

BARNSLEY is celebrating its best ever GCSE results.

The proportion of students achieving five or more A* to C grades, including maths and English, has increased by five per cent on last year’s results, to 55 per cent.

Another first for the borough is that results at this point are above last year’s national average.

Coun Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for People (Achieving Potential), said: “What fantastic results – our best yet.

“The students have demonstrated great hard work and commitment, which has really paid off.

"I’d like to congratulate them and wish them well for the future."

Well done to the GCSE students of Barnsley, their teachers and their parents. It is great that their results have improved by 5% on last year when nationally it's a downward trend. Exam results aren't the be all and end all, but it does show what the kids and the teachers can do. Hope it encourages some parents to have a think and stop slagging off Barnsley schools about everything.

Congratulations to the pupils at Horizon Community College and all the staff from Wickersley Sports Academy that made these results possible.
