The homemade 'stingers' The homemade 'stingers'

BARNSLEY COUNCIL has issued a warning to locals after discovering homemade 'stingers' hidden away in an area of long grass popular with children and dog walkers.

The stingers were found by a local resident in the public open space at Cypress Road in Kendray.

A council spokesperson said: "They had been placed in the long grass and could have been extremely dangerous to people using the area - especially children and dogs.

"Our tasking officer for the area has been notified and will keep an eye out. If you spot anything or have any information please contact the police by calling 101."

How nasty can anybody get! imagine having the time and the inclination to make and put those things on public land where especially children and dogs could step on them. sicko.

Maybe it's because nothing has been done about the gangs of kids round there that residents have took it into their own hands. If it is then don't blame them, syp aren't doing much about it

If that's the case Mr me, residents who make these stingers are criminal and irresponsible as anyone could get hurt. If gangs of kids are the issue and the police are doing nothing, residents should confront the kids and let police know they are doing it, or have you tried that.

It's a possibility, and now that you raise it, it is worth considering.

If some people think they can take the law into their own hands and use violence and instruments of violence, with the potential to kill, to target others, over a relatively minor and trivial nuisance, then these people need finding and locking up ASAP, and made an example of.

Perhaps the police should be checking these 'stingers' for fingerprints and DNA and also collecting fingerprint and DNA samples from anybody locally who has raised complaints about bikers/noise/children playing etc., in order to rule them out and find the culprit.

I'd much rather have nuisance bikers, than some holier than thou, take the law into their own hands lunatic for a neighbour.

Of course, it's obvious that some vigilante would take the law into their own hands to dictate what happens on public land. Have they made a sign saying 'kids and dog walkers don't step here'........hope the police start listening seriously to residents complaints, it is not good enough that people get driven to these limits.

@mrunkown
Don't be so silly.
you don't know anything unless you have made the stingers which is unlikely as you probably never get out of your dark bedroom away from a computer.
There are kids on bikes on this waste ground.
It's a pity there is such a low tolerance level but people do get to the point where they have had enough, I suppose.
I hope the police will do something though they are stretched with all the petty crime going on, people with too much time on their hands who should be getting jobs and parents with no influence over their children who miraculously have motorbikes, quad bikes etc as if they come as a bonus with Job Seekers Allowance or other benefits that some folk think is their entitlement.

Some people are just absolute ideots! If someone rides over these on a bike they grey a flat tyre which will just be replaced quite easily. If someone's dog steps on them there's a possibility of it being fatal. If someone's child steps on them they could cause serious injury. Absolutely pathetic.

Wow, this is some serious sociopathic behaviour, placing booby traps in a public field?! This is a residential area not friggin Vietnam. Why not just lay some land mines next time?.....pffft!

If this really is about a bunch of kids being kids, you should maybe have expressed your concerns with said kids instead of curtain twitching and spreading anger & hate, then who knows, they may have just listened you and instead of alienating yourself. You might just have made your community that little bit tighter.

Also, anyone with any info should do the right thing so that person gets the help they need. I hate to grass, but when innocent people, kids and animals are involved, then that rule goes out the window.

I must admit, a couple of messages on this thread sound mighty suspect. But hey, what do I know.
