POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted by a man in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

Police were called at around 1.25am to reports of an assault in Pontefract Road in the town centre. 

The 26-year-old woman was walking on the road when tge man is believed to have approached her from behind.

The man is alleged to have assaulted the woman, punching her in the face before running off.

The man is described as being white, around 5ft 7ins tall, with shaved blonde hair. He was reportedly wearing a red shirt.

Wow that narrows it down with the red shirt because nobody else where's red shirts!!
Hope the female in question is fine though and not too shaken. This happens too regular in Barnsley and by the time police arrive the suspects usually miles away, either that or police drive with their eyes closed like the one I saw earlier sat on her mobile playing Pokemon
