CCTV installed in crime hotspots

CCTV at the Alhambra underpass CCTV at the Alhambra underpass

CCTV has been installed at two crime hotspots in the town centre.

CCTV is now up and running at the Alhambra underpass and in Peel Square.

A council spokesperson said: "The cameras will run 24 hours a day and officers from our community safety service will have access to download any footage needed.

"The cameras will work alongside our current Public Spaces Protection Order and will allow officers to remotely observe and evidence anti-social behaviour, helping to create a safer town centre."

More lazy journalism from WAB mentions 2 crime spots in the opening line but the article only references one?

Come on WAB it's your job to ask questions

It's about time I live on doncaster road and occassionally walk on towards under pass and feel a little intimidated at times and frighteningand also fr older folks...it's getting terrible with the handful of people making this town a name...

Thought we already had them in peel square? Or are they just dummies like the low life's that sit under them.
Would be interesting to see if any accurate figures are available to see how many scrotters have been convicted via the presence/use of cctv.
Would seem like another tokenistic gesture instead of real action.

Pure laziness on the police's behalf, they claim to be moving people on when clearly they're not, they stand around gaping into space looking anywhere else but directly at the troublecausers! What are cameras going to do? We have already seen their ineffectiveness because if they wear a hat, look the other way or have a scarf on they can never 100% identify them. Get a decent incorrupt police force and walk the beat again. Seems to me they are more interested in catching people littering and giving fines out than they are catching rapists, nonces and thieves!

We have to have cameras in order the police can continue sitting in the police station eating kebabs. I've noticed one particular policeman in town who is so fat I doubt if he is capable of chasing a criminal.!!

Public space protection order (well small sign on lampost) in that field at town end across from chip shop isnt doing the word of good - stick cameras in there, or at least get someone to enforce the order. Can't move for cans and plastic bottles with burnt bags stuck to them. early hours of the day, midday, evenings. might even catch amateur artists scribbling all over the walls. Protection order?
