THE POLICE car that took a tumble after rolling down a hill crashed because of 'hot weather' according to a police chief.

The car was left upside down in Carlton Road after the incident last month - shocking bystanders.

Police launched an investigation after the incident to determine how incident occured.

Sgt Ian Bailey said: “Due to the hot weather conditions and the use of the car immediately before the incident, the brake shoes had expanded through heat.

“As they have cooled down, it would appear that the contraction of the metal has caused the brakes to release which has enabled the car to roll down Carlton Road, colliding with a fence and a telegraph pole.”
