THE Council won't introduce charges for the Barnsley Parkrun despite another council's decision to charge participants.

Barnsley Council has said that it is happy to keep its current arrangements with the organisers of the Barnsley Parkrun at Locke Park.

There had been concerns Stoke Gifford Parish Council's decision to charge parkrunner's a fee for the use of Little Stoke Park near Bristol would lead to other council’s around the country following suit.

However, a Barnsley Council spokesperson said: "We are happy to say that we have no intention of charging for the the Locke Park Park Run.

"We have upwards of 100 adults taking part on Saturdays and the same numbers of junior runners on Sunday morning.

"We feel that the benefit to the public in helping to promote healthy activities across all ages and getting people out into the fresh air is a priority for the borough and we are happy to support this."

Come to Locke Park and run with wild huskies.....

Come to Locke Park and run the "dodge the dog crap" route....

Come to Locke Park, after dodging the wild huskies, the dog crap, relax in the Sita waste playground and count how many times you hear the F-word.

Locke Park has been held on trust by Barnsley Council since the I860s for the PEOPLE of Barnsley. So how could they charge the people of Barnsley for holding events

"We are BMBC, so FU residents" - is the mindset.

In all honesty though, i'd imagine the charges would be for the staff, resources and overhead costs including, risk assessments, insurance, training.
These are genuine costs which are incurred whether directly or incidentally.

But the band wagons are to blame the LA for everything so I stand by my flippant initial comment.

Surely there is a brownfield site somewhere, where we can have a nice big wall built around it and they can pitch up there, rather than this circle jerk of Pikey Bingo which plagues the Borough! Weren't they parked up at the Metrodome last week and at the B&Q car park as well!
