Council issues phone scam warning

COUNCIL CHIEFS have issued a warning regarding scam phone calls from people claiming to represent Barnsley Council.

A number of residents across the Borough have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be from Barnsley Council or another public body.

In each case the caller has claimed to be dealing with an insurance or compensation claim that the member of the public has made against the Council, and that a few further details are required.

It was reported that sometimes the caller has not attempted to withhold their telephone number, while in some cases they have.

The council said it would never ask for bank account details or a PIN number over the phone.

It also said it wouldn't ask anyone to withdraw money and send it to them via a courier, taxi or by any other means.

It would, or it wouldn't?

This appears to be a very unfortunate typo...
